About BookList4u

BookList4u started with a simple frustration: trying to figure out the right order to read a long book series. You know the feeling — you pick up a fantasy epic, get hooked, then realize the book you just finished was actually the third in the series. Prequels, spin-offs, companion novels — it gets confusing fast.

So I built the tool I wished existed. What started as a personal project to track reading orders has grown into 95 hand-curated series spanning fantasy, sci-fi, thriller, romance, horror, mystery, and more — plus long-form reading guides, reader-written articles, and community-voted chronological orders.

Who Publishes BookList4u

BookList4u is published by Nelera, the independent studio I run. Guides, editorial articles and series write-ups on the site carry the Nelera byline: they are researched, written and maintained by me, and I am responsible for what they say. There is no outside owner, sponsor or publisher paying for coverage.

How Every Reading Order Is Checked

• Every edition is verified. Each book in a list carries an ISBN, and each ISBN is checked against Open Library: the check digit must be valid and the edition's title and author must match the book. A full re-check on October 1, 2026 replaced roughly a hundred ISBNs that pointed at the wrong book — the kind of error that sends a reader to buy something else entirely.
• Novellas are marked, not numbered. Short fiction, story collections and companion books keep their place in the reading order but are labeled optional, so “book 3” means the third novel — the way readers and publishers count.
• The order type is stated. Each list says whether it follows publication order or a recommended/chronological order, and you can re-sort any list by release date.
• Status and dates are shown. Series pages say whether a series is complete or ongoing, name the next book when one has been officially announced, and show when the list last changed.

Corrections

Found a wrong book, a missing novella or an order you disagree with? Tell me. Factual errors are fixed and the list's “updated” date moves with the change. Disagreements about chronological order can also be settled in public: signed-in readers can propose an order on any series page and vote on others' proposals.

What Makes BookList4u Different

There are plenty of book recommendation sites out there. Here is what sets BookList4u apart:

• Hand-curated reading orders: Every series on BookList4u has been carefully organized by a real reader — not auto-generated from a database. I research the author's intended reading order, consider chronological vs. publication order, and note where companion novels and novellas fit in.
• Community reading times: Real readers submit how long it took them to finish each book. Over time, this builds up honest estimates so you know what you're committing to before diving into a 15-book series.
• Community-voted reading orders: Beyond the curated order, signed-in readers can propose an in-universe or chronological reading order for a series and vote on each other's proposals — once enough readers agree, it becomes the official community order.
• Free to browse, free to join: Browsing is completely open — no account needed to explore series, reading orders, or reading times. To contribute reviews, reading times, likes, or community posts, you sign in with Google in one click. No passwords to remember, and the account is free.
• Genre tags and age guidance: Every series is tagged with its genre and a recommended age range, so you can filter the list by genre and judge at a glance whether a series suits a younger reader.

The Person Behind the Project

BookList4u is a one-person passion project. I'm a software developer and lifelong reader who believes that great stories deserve to be read in the right order. I built this site from scratch using modern web technologies (Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS) and I personally maintain every reading order on the platform.

I also run the whole thing myself. BookList4u is fully self-hosted — it lives in Docker containers on a home server, backed by a PostgreSQL database, and is served to the world through a Cloudflare Tunnel. There's no big company behind it: owning the infrastructure end to end keeps costs low, keeps the site fast and ad-light, and means your data stays in my hands rather than getting sold off.

When I'm not coding or curating reading orders, you'll probably find me working through my own ever-growing reading list. I'm always on the lookout for the next series to add — especially hidden gems that don't get enough attention.

How the Site Works

Every reading order starts with research. I look at the author's recommendations, community discussions, and the narrative flow of the series to determine the best reading order. Each book entry includes a description, publication year, and direct links so you can start reading right away.

The site also features weekly New York Times bestseller lists updated automatically, a browsable genre system, and author profiles with biographical information. Everything is designed to help you spend less time searching and more time reading.

Beyond the reading orders themselves, BookList4u has grown into a small reading community. The Community section lets readers publish their own articles, discuss series, and comment on each other's posts, while the Reading Guides offer in-depth, original write-ups on where to start a series, how genres compare, and how to get more out of your reading.
