The Bridgerton Reading Order: Which Sibling Should You Read First?
by Nelera · June 11, 2026 · Updated October 1, 2026
Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series is built around the eight Bridgerton siblings, one love story per book, in birth order: The Duke and I, The Viscount Who Loved Me, An Offer From a Gentleman, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, To Sir Phillip With Love, When He Was Wicked, It's In His Kiss, and On the Way to the Wedding.
The lovely thing about a series like this is that each book is a complete romance with its own couple, so you can technically pick one up out of order. But reading them in birth order pays off — the family ages together, side characters become leads, and small threads (like the identity of a certain anonymous society gossip) reward you for paying attention across books.
If you came to Bridgerton through the show, note that the adaptation reorders some couples and changes details, so the books will surprise you in good ways. The Viscount Who Loved Me — Anthony's book — is a frequent fan favorite, so if you only try one to see if the series is for you, that's a strong test case.
So: birth order purist, or do you read your favorite couple first? And which Bridgerton sibling deserved a better book? Let's argue about it nicely in the comments.
