Fablehaven — Reading Order

Brandon Mull's Fablehaven series is a middle-grade fantasy that takes the concept of nature preserves and applies it to magical creatures. When siblings Kendra and Seth visit their grandparents' estate, they discover it is actually a sanctuary for magical beings — fairies, satyrs, demons, and everything in between. As the preserves around the world come under threat from a secret society called the Society of the Evening Star, the siblings must help protect not just Fablehaven but the entire magical ecosystem.

Mull excels at creating a sense of wonder and danger in equal measure. Fablehaven feels like a real place — the rules of the preserve (stay on the path, do not drink the milk unless you want to see the fairies) create immediate tension and an atmosphere where curiosity is both rewarded and punished. Seth's recklessness and Kendra's caution make them a compelling duo, and the escalating threats across the series keep the stakes high without ever losing the sense of magic.
