About This Series
Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians brought Greek mythology to a new generation of readers by imagining a modern world where the Greek gods are alive and well, living atop the Empire State Building, and their half-mortal children attend a summer camp called Camp Half-Blood. The series follows Percy Jackson, a twelve-year-old with ADHD and dyslexia who discovers he is the son of Poseidon and must navigate quests that mirror the great myths while dealing with very real adolescent struggles.
Read the original five books in order: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan's Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian — together they form a complete and satisfying arc. Riordan returned to Percy's senior year of high school with The Chalice of the Gods and Wrath of the Triple Goddess, lighter standalone adventures best read after the first five. If you enjoy this series, Riordan has built an extensive interconnected universe — The Heroes of Olympus follows Percy and new characters through Roman mythology, The Trials of Apollo continues the world, and The Kane Chronicles explores Egyptian mythology.
Percy Jackson works so well because Riordan, a former middle school teacher, understands his audience. The books are funny, action-packed, and full of clever mythological references that reward readers who dig deeper. He also normalizes learning differences — Percy's ADHD and dyslexia are reframed as signs of his demigod heritage, a message that has meant a great deal to countless young readers. The series matures with its audience, growing in complexity and stakes with each installment while never losing its sense of humor and heart.
